Pupils from St. John’s RC Primary School at Rufford station about to walk to Burscough via the canal

The other is the walk between Burscough Junction and Rufford stations taking in the Leeds & Liverpool as well as the Rufford Branch canals.  Part of the Explore Lancashire by Rail series this will help you to put on your walking shoes, take the train and do the walk! For armchair comfort here is a trailer to really whet the appetite for getting into the great outdoors:

Richard Watts, Chair Community Rail Lancashire and Secretary of the Community Rail Partnership commented:

“The West Lancashire Line is a Hidden Gem offering great days out and all of it easy to reach by frequent train services from Liverpool and Preston. Why not hop on and visit one of the many places shown in the guide or go for a walk along the canal or visit a historic hall. Take a look at the web site which has lots of information about the line and what to do.” Use this link to visit the page on the website: The West of Lancashire Line
