Walkers Enjoy Scenic Trek from Burscough Junction to Rufford as Part of Community Project
On Saturday, 19th October, a group of enthusiastic walkers set off from Burscough Junction for a 4.5-mile trek from Burscough to Rufford, marking another successful event in the ongoing ‘Talk to Walk to Run’ project. The group travelled from Accrington to Burscough by train. Organised in partnership with Accrington Road Runners, Community Rail Lancashire, and Hyndburn Council, the initiative promotes active living and community engagement.
It was a pleasant autumnal day as the group began their journey at Burscough Junction, taking a scenic route along the canal towpath. Highlights of the walk included a stop at Burscough Wharf, where participants had the unique opportunity to board a 1930s barge. The leisurely stroll continued towards Rufford, where the walkers enjoyed a break at Tastebuds Cafe, treating themselves to cake and tea before boarding the train back.
Details of this walk and others along the Preston to Ormskirk line can be found on Community Rail Lancashire’s website on this link: Make a Beeline for the West Lancashire Line.
