Stations of Welcome Awards Success

Accrington station’s adoption group, Stations of Welcome has recently won an award in the BBC’s Making a Difference Awards. The award was for a community group that has made a difference to it’s community.

Stations of Welcome, the first Muslim women’s group to adopt a station in the country, has been running as a group for around 3 years and has participated in numerous projects to raise the profile of Muslim women in Lancashire such as, World Hijab Day, Ramadan Water project, Autism, Menopause and Diabetes awareness sessions as well as raising money for Medical Aid for Gaza and clothing collections for refugee families. They recently did a clothing collection for the flood victims in Pakistan.

As a group they are a positive example of how train travel and confidence can lead to independence and increased community initiatives.
