Rail Safety Day At Preston

On Tuesday 26th September Community Rail Lancashire delivered a day of activities around railway safety as a part of the bigger initiative ‘National Rail Safety Week’.

The day was hosted at Preston Railway station with a variety of partners involved including; The British Transport Police (BTP), Virgin Trains and Northern Railway. The children of St Stephens Primary School, local to Preston station, came over to take part in the activities. Dax from the BTP took children on a tour of the station to discuss the importance of making the right choices as they grow up, he also talked about the importance of criminal records and staying safe at the station.

Northern carried out a poster competition for children to design safety posters as a part of their safety campaign and Community Rail Lancashire delivered an interactive session on with children trying on railway uniforms and looking at equipment and signage and discussing how they are designed to keep both passengers and staff safe whilst on the railway. Children were able to be creative with their poster designs, take part in a fun quiz and meet Sammy the Safety Bear from Virgin trains at the station!
