On Monday 23rd October 2017 a team from St. Thomas CE Primary School, Blackburn visited Accrington Station as part of their First© Lego© League Project.
Hydro Dynamics is the 2017/18 season challenge and the competition involves the children learning about water and, how we find, transport, use, dispose of and recycle this essential commodity. Teams choose and solve a real world problem within the project parameters. Accrington Eco Station provided the children with a working example of water recycling in the form of harvesting rainwater from the roof of the station building and reusing it in the toilets in both the staff and public areas of the station.
Teacher Yusra Arshad said; “a huge thank you to Brian for showing us round the eco station and showing us ways in which we can save water and recycle in our own school”. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and were interested in the other eco features of the station as well as the rainwater harvesting.
First Lego League challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During the HYDRO DYNAMICSSM season, teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the Project. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the FIRST LEGO League signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.
