Dick, Kerr Ladies Postcards Have Arrived!

Community Rail Lancashire was privileged to work with a group of young people from Project SEARCH for three days, alongside artist Karen Allerton, to develop ideas for a series of postcards raising awareness and celebrating the achievements of the Dick, Kerr Ladies.

The group worked incredibly hard and learnt a lot from going on a rail journey to Manchester to visit the National Football Museum, having a VIP tour of Preston North End Stadium and a special talk with renowned researcher and author Gail Newsham. This all came together with an art day led by artist Karen Allerton where lots of ideas and learning came together.

Since then Karen has been very busy working behind the scenes to pull all the work together to create a series of postcards. The group reviewed the drafts and the final versions are now here! Everyone involved is really impressed and excited about sharing them with the general public at Preston Station and writing personal notes to elderly people living in residential care.

Community Rail Lancashire are currently arranging a special VIP sharing of the postcard project to be included at an event at Preston North End Stadium in the summer. The young people are excited to bring their guests to hear about the project and will be handing out postcards there as well.
