Over the past school year, Education Officer Karen Bennett, has been working with primary schools along the route from Bradford to Leeds via New Pudsey after spikes in trespassing were causing Northern and Network Rail a cause for concern.
Year 5 pupils from ten schools from across the area have taken part in safety and careers sessions in schools and some have taken the opportunity to take a train journey to exciting places like the Railway Museum in York and the Science and Media Museum in Bradford to put their new found safety skills into practice.
Funding has now been secured from Northern’s Seedcorn fund so that some of these schools can take part in a collaborative art project with Karen and local artist Han Made whilst learning about the history of trains during the process. The mural which will celebrate the Platinum Jubilee Year will be erected at Bradford Interchange, New Pudsey and Bramley stations later in the summer.
Funding will pay for the artist, all art materials, digitising the work and printing the work onto long-lasting weather-proof Dibond.
