Books At Stations Grant Success

Community Rail Lancashire (CRL) is pleased to announce that it has been successful in securing a grant of £450 from the Association of Community Rail Partnership’s Small Grant Fund for a reading project.

Books at stations is a poster campaign designed to encourage more passengers to read on trains and borrow books from station book exchanges.

The posters will be displayed in CRL branded poster cases, mainly in Lancashire including Accrington, and the community board at Bradford Interchange. Smaller posters will also be printed internally for use in adoption group poster cases. A QR code will be printed on the posters so people are able to find out where their nearest station book exchange is. CRL will host the ‘Books at Stations‘ link on their web site to encourage more people to find out more about community rail.

The poster will link reading to the ways it can improve mental health – reading a book can lower blood pressure and reduce muscle tension.

The project will also involve local schools where relevant, especially for book reading days. It will involve/promote station adoption groups where relevant and will also encourage the community to use station libraries.

The Small Grants Fund (England) is available to Community Rail Partnerships, station friends and adopters to help promote community rail. The scheme is administered by the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT).
