Again this year, the students, from universities across the North, have joined the Bentham Line to learn about the world of Community Rail and understand the ideas behind station adoption.
After an introductory session at Bentham, the students toured the Bentham and Calder Valley lines to look at a diverse collection of CRPs’ and station adopters’ projects.
The Partnership’s award-winning ‘Dementia and Community Rail’ project was outlined to the students who then undertook a dementia awareness session with the CRP’s Dementia Friends Champions at Bentham.
They have recently visited the Heritage Centre at Carnforth, to gain an understanding of the former and present-day railway communities, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Saltaire home to Sir Titus Salt’s pioneering model industrial community.
A keen and lively group of young people, the students will be developing and undertaking their own community projects along the line in the coming months.
