CRL - Community Rail Lancashire

Community Rail Week In Lancashire

National Community Rail Week 2024 is taking place from 20 May to 26 May 2024 with the theme ‘More Than a Railway’. Community Rail Lancashire (CRL) and its constituent CRPs will be getting involved and below are just some of the things going on.

Tuesday 21 May sees a guided walk led by the Lancashire Rail Ramblers. Starting at 10:25 from Burnley Manchester Road station the walk takes in Towneley Park, Walk Mill, the Singing Ringing Tree, Crown Point and back to Burnley Manchester Road station. The walk is 7.5 miles and graded moderately easy. All welcome to join. The walk takes the route of one of CRL’s latest Explore Lancashire by Rail films and this can be seen on this page or on this link: A longer walk around Burnley.

Wednesday 22 May sees CRL joining in with an open day on Manchester Piccadilly station arranged by Network Rail and there is also plenty of activity on the South Fylde Line with a time capsule being buried on St. Anne’s-on-the-Sea station followed by a short guided walk around the town led by Tony Ford, Chair of the SFLCRP.

Thursday 23 May is a big day at Accrington Eco Station, the home of CRL, who are hosting an Open Day. The day starts at 09:30 with stalls in the booking hall with CRL, Network Rail, Northern, Prospects Foundation and the Stations of Welcome group. This runs until 12:30. After a short break CRL will be throwing open its Bunker doors for an open house session where people can find out more about community rail and what CRL does and its eco credentials. Friday 24 May sees Le Feast, the café on the platforms at Poulton-le-Fylde station running an I-Spy station safety quiz with free cake for everyone that completes the quiz. More information about Le feast on
