All Aboard Colouring Competition Judged

Arthur, aged 7 judges the All Aboard Colouring Competition at the Exhibition to celebrate 200 years of passenger railway

Arthur, aged 7 is very keen on trains and has amassed a huge collection of Thomas the Tank engine trains. As part of the Tracks of Life: Trains People and Places exhibition at Clitheroe Castle Museum’s Steward’s Gallery, Arthur generously lent his Thomas and his Friends trains and these have created a fun Train Spotting activity for children when they visit this free exhibition.

So, who better to judge the All Aboard Colouring Competition, but Arthur? He visited the museum recently to judge the competition along with his grandfather, Brian Haworth, whose love of the railway has certainly rubbed off on Arthur.

With over 100 entries, there were lots of posters to judge. There was a winner in each of the age groups, 1years to 10years and even a ‘big kids’ category for a few adults who couldn’t resist entering!

Mike Cliffe, Chair of the Clitheroe Line Partnership explained: “It is lovely to see so many great entries for the All Aboard! colouring competition which celebrates the past and present of our passenger railways. The judge’s job can’t have been easy!”

The winners will be invited to a special event which will take place on 15th August at 13:30. Winner of each age group will receive a railway goodie bag and the overall winner a Northern Family Weekend Explorer ticket; the second prize, an annual Museum Explorer ticket to allow free entry for up to three adults to all Lancashire County Council Museums.

Claire Sutton, Museum Manager, Clitheroe Castle said: “We’ve been absolutely thrilled by the fantastic response to the All Aboard Colouring Competition. The creativity and effort in every entry have been wonderful to see—thank you to everyone who visited Clitheroe Castle Museum and took part!”

The exhibition and activities is celebrating the life and work of local professional railway photographer, Ken Roberts (1928–2024) until September. If you haven’t seen it yet, do visit. Follow the link below for opening times.
