The film records a walk by a permissive footpath from both Burscough Junction and Burscough Bridge stations and takes you through beautiful countryside and along quiet lanes to Martin Mere Wetland Centre.

Richard Watts, Chair, Community Rail Lancashire, commented: “CRL is proud to launch its latest film in the series ‘Explore Lancashire By Rail’ . This film shows the route from Burscough Bridge station to the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust reserve at Martin Mere. Martin Mere has lots happening all year round and it is an easy walk from the station to the reserve. As an added bonus there is a discount on the entry price for visitors arriving by train. So take a look at the film, download the map, board the train and enjoy the walk to the reserve and a great day out.”

Louise Clewley, Reserve Manager at WWT Martin Mere, said: “Lancashire is a wildlife haven, with each season bringing something different. At WWT Martin Mere, we see thousands of migratory species join us in the autumn and winter and lots of new life from birds to insects and colourful wildflowers in the spring and summer.”

She continued: “The walk from Burscough station to WWT Martin Mere in itself offers a great taste of Lancashire wildlife, with beautiful open fields and the sounds of birds as they dart across the sky. And if you arrive by train, you can also enjoy a 15% discount into our centre, just show your train ticket to our admissions when you arrive.”
