Monday 1st July sees the introduction of the first tranche of the 101 new trains on order for Northern.
From today, some of the class 195 diesel trains being built by CAF will operate between Barrow/Windermere and Manchester Airport via Preston. As more units are delivered to Northern they will become a familiar site in East Lancashire as they take over the Blackpool North to York inter regional service via Blackburn and Accrington.
At the launch of the new trains last week Richard Allan, Deputy Managing Director, Northern, said “These new trains are the buggiest investment in local rail services in the north for a generation … These new trains represent a huge improvement in design, quality and overall experience for our customers”.
