TransPennine Express, the North’s intercity train operator, has launched a £50,000 environmental and community fund for new projects.
The fund is available to groups based either on a TransPennine route or near a station managed by the company. See press release below for full details.
Train company, TransPennine Express (TPE) has teamed up with the Forestry Commission to help new environmental and community projects across the North and into Scotland with a new £50,000 grant scheme.
Named ‘Transform’, the brand new fund builds on the success of the popular ‘Green Grants’ initiative and is open to community groups or clubs, charities, schools and other individuals who allow open access to their land.
Applicants can apply for up to £5,000 in grants for environmental and community projects and will be asked to demonstrate how they benefit the environment, promote social inclusion and/or tackle youth unemployment as well as proximity of the project to TPE routes or stations.
The Transform scheme is open for applications until 30th November and the application form can be downloaded from tpexpress.co.uk/csr. Successful applicants will be notified in January 2017.
TPE’s Environmental Manager, Iain Peacock said, “We have a responsibility to support the communities we serve and are committed to supporting community and environmental projects across the North and into Scotland.
“This new fund builds on the success of our popular ‘Green Grants’ scheme which last year awarded £26,000 to 17 projects. As part of our new franchise, we are now offering more money than ever to help support local causes and are encouraging community groups, clubs, charities and schools to get in touch and apply as soon as possible.”
A judging panel made up of representatives from both TPE and the Forestry Commission will decide which projects are awarded grants to support their initiative.
Last year, TPE in partnership with the Forestry Commission supported 17 different projects across the North and Scotland including the planting of 1,500 willow trees in Salford to the installation of barn owl boxes in York.
