Monday 5th September 2016 saw the Community Rail Lancashire team expand. Two new recruits Emily Elliott and Daisy Chapman-Chamberlain have been taken on as Community Rail Education Development Officers.
Emily and Daisy will be working closely with CRL’s existing education team of Brian and Marjorie and will be helping to develop and extend CRL’s award winning educational work across the new Arriva Rail North franchise area.
Daisy studied geography at the University of Lancaster, graduating in 2013 with a focus on Geography in Education and British Landscape and Infrastructure. She then took her PGCE at Bishop Grosseteste University College in Lincoln, and went on to teach in Key Stage One in schools in Bolton and Stretford, before joining Community Rail Lancashire. During these years she has worked with a wide range of charities and groups including Barnardo’s children’s charity, Riding for the Disabled, the National Trust and within the House of Lords. She is particularly focussed on promoting exciting, holistic rail education programmes to children of all ages, encompassing practical rail use, history and environmentalism.

Emily began her career by studying Events Management and won ‘Best Student Event’ at the UK Event Awards in 2011, since then she qualified as a primary school teacher, and has worked in the education sector from lower to higher education for the last three years. Emily has experience of working within a variety of educational settings including primary schools and specialist schools where she has worked on many different schemes of education and planned educational trips. Emily’s experiences have also extended to higher education working with UK and international students planning events to raise awareness of the different services available to them during their educational journeys.

Rail Development Team Manager and Partnerships Secretary, Richard Watts said; “Community Rail Lancashire is delighted to welcome Daisy Chapman-Chamberlain and Emily Elliott as the new Community Rail Education Development officers to the team. This is a great step forward and will allow CRL to expand its school education work to new areas in Lancashire as well as enabling it to share best practice with other Northern CRPs. The posts are being funded by Northern through the Community Rail Executive Group (ComREG) and we hope to develop close links with the northern team through the Stakeholder Managers and the Regional Community & Sustainability Managers.”
Richard went on to say: “CRL will shortly be attending the DfT’s Community Rail Market Place taking place in London and also the seminar and workshop that is preceding the Community Rail Awards in Southport at the end of September. These will be great opportunities for Daisy and Emily to meet the rest of the community rail world.”
