North West Electrification Information Meetings

Network Rail are holding a series of ‘drop-in’ sessions for line side neighbours along the railway between Bolton and Euxton Junction to inform people about the plans for electrification of the route.

The drop-in sessions will take place at:

As you are likely to be aware, the route from Manchester – Preston via Bolton is part of a wider £1 billion investment across the north of England to improve journeys and enable faster, greener and more frequent train services to operate.

We have already reconstructed a number of bridges spanning the railway and modified tunnels along the route in order to provide sufficient space for the overhead line equipment to be installed which will power electric trains. As such, our next piece of work is to install the foundations and stanchions along the railway that will support the overhead wires. We will also be  cutting back overgrown vegetation and renewing sections of track.
